LONDON, March 18, 2026 (ITIA Media Release)
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) is pleased to announce that Emma Johnson has been appointed as an Independent Director on its Board.
Emma Johnson is currently CEO of Western Australia’s Corruption and Crime Commission and was a medal-winning swimmer at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She brings a combination of lived experience as an athlete to the ITIA Board, alongside significant anti-doping and integrity expertise.
Emma also serves on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Independent Ethics Board, has previously held roles as Deputy CEO of Sport Integrity Australia and on WADA’s National Anti-Doping Organisation Expert Advisory Group. She has over twenty years of experience in integrity, national security and law enforcement in Australia.
Commenting on joining the ITIA Board, Emma said, “Tennis is known globally as a sport leading the way in dealing with integrity threats, and I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the table to help the ITIA team deliver on its goals. To get the opportunity to work with a major sport in this way is a privilege and a great challenge.”
Speaking on the appointment, Chair of the Board Jennie Price CBE said, “Emma’s background in anti-doping combined with her work in anti-corruption and law enforcement and her personal experience as an elite athlete made her a stand-out candidate from a strong field. I am confident that she will add great value to the ITIA Board and I am really looking forward to working with her.”
Emma will take up her role on 1 May 2026, succeeding Avril Martindale whose second term on the Board comes to an end on 30 April. Avril, a former partner at global law firm Freshfields, joined the then-Tennis Integrity Unit Board in 2019, playing an important role as the organisation first became the ITIA, in 2021, and subsequently represented the Board on the Tennis Anti-Doping Committee.
Jennie Price CBE, independent chair of the ITIA Board, paid tribute to Avril, “Avril’s strategic insight, attention to detail and passion for tennis has served the ITIA Board extremely well in the last seven years and I would like to thank her on behalf of the whole Board for her contribution.”
The ITIA Board is made up of four directors nominated by the tennis members – David Haggerty (ITF), Portia Archer (WTA), Mark Young (ATP) and Brian Vahaly (Grand Slam Board) and five independent directors Avril Martindale (to be replaced by Emma Johnson OLY), Bob Harayda, Ebru Koksal CFA, Sal Perna AM and Jennie Price CBE. Its role is to set the strategy of the ITIA and oversee its work running the sport’s anti-doping and anti-corruption programmes.
