Although four ATP events were taking place the same week, a couple of famous players have come to the Swiss Alps. “It wasn’t easy for us this year but we are very pleased with the level of tennis, which was exceptionally well again. With Feliciano López, a well-known player on the tour has added his name to the list of winners,” tournament director Jeff Collet told on Sunday afternoon.
Positive effects with the women’s event
For the first time, two consecutive tournaments took place in Gstaad, as the WTA Ladie’s Open was held ahead of the men’s event.
“The final weekend of the women’s tournament calls attention to the start of the ATP World Tour event. The change between the two tournaments worked out in a smooth way. This new starting position is a great chance for the future,” stated Ruth Wipfli Steinegger, president of the Swiss Open Gstaad AG.
“There are only four places, where a women’s tournament takes place followed by a men’s event the next week. This is a huge opportunity for the two events as well as for the entire region. We will do everything to build on this success,” Collet added.
The tournament’s new title sponsor will remain on board for the 102nd edition of the Swiss Open, taking place from 22 to 30 July 2017.
