BAD RAPPENAU, June 3, 2026

Wednesday at the Neckarcup was largely dedicated to doubles action, with seven of the day’s eleven matches taking place in the doubles draw. However, it was German players who stole the spotlight in singles competition.

Henri Squire produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far by defeating fourth seed Pedro Martinez. The Duisburg native displayed patience, composure and an impressive variety in his game, leaving the Spaniard without answers. Squire eventually secured a 7-6, 6-4 victory to book his place in the quarterfinals.

“It was an up and down match,” Squire said afterwards. “I was dealing with a minor injury from the middle of the first set, and then Pedro also started having problems with his foot. Fortunately, I now have a day off. Together with the physios, who are doing a great job, I’ll try to recover well and be ready again on Friday.”

Squire’s successful day continued in the evening when he teamed up with Max Wiskandt in doubles. The German duo edged through a thrilling match tie-break 13-11 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Next up for Squire in singles will be Spain’s Alejandro Moro Canas, who ended the impressive run of German wild card Max Schoenhaus. After more than two hours of play, Moro Canas prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Marko Topo‘s tournament came to an end in the second round following a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to second seed Emilio Nava. In both sets, a single break proved decisive in favour of the US-American, despite little difference being visible between the two players throughout the match.

Last year’s finalist Guy den Ouden also had to work hard for his place in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger 100 tournament. The Dutchman needed three sets and 131 minutes to overcome Croatia’s Matej Dodig 6-3, 6-7, 6-0. As in last year’s tournament, Den Ouden will now face Nava in the quarterfinals.

The doubles competition also delivered several exciting encounters. The North American pairing of George Goldhoff and Cleeve Harper narrowly defeated Victor Cornea and Younes Lalami 7-6, 7-6, winning both tie-breaks 7-5. Meanwhile, Germany’s Tim Ruehl and Dutch partner Mick Veldheer produced an impressive performance to eliminate top seeds Blake Bayldon and Marc Polmans of Australia 6-2, 6-3 and move into the next round.
