Mubadala DC Open Announces Early Player Commitments

The Mubadala DC Open, the world’s only combined ATP/WTA 500-series tournament, announced its initial player commitments for this year’s event on Thursday. It’s highlighted by the return of defending champions Alex de Minaur of Australia and Leylah Fernandez of Canada, as well as three Top-10 players, two Grand Slam champions, four Grand Slam finalists and four former DC champions.

The official player field announcement will come in early July for the 57th edition of the tournament, which will take place July 25-August 2 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, located in northwest Washington, D.C.

Along with defending champions de Minaur, who is currently ranked World No. 6, and World No. 23 Fernandez, the early commitments include:

ATP

• World No. 9, 2024 US Open finalist and 10-time ATP Tour title winner Taylor Fritz of the United States

• World No. 26, three-time ATP Tour titlist and Maryland native Frances Tiafoe of the United States.

• Former World No. 3 and six-time Grand Slam semifinalist Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

• Former World No. 4 and 2025 Indian Wells champion Jack Draper of Great Britain.

• World No. 28 and five-time ATP titlist Tommy Paul of the United States.

• Former World No. 4 and 2015 DC Open champion Kei Nishikori of Japan.

WTA

• Seven-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Venus Williams of the United States.

• Roland-Garros semifinalist and this year’s Madrid Open champion World No. 12 Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine.

• 2021 US Open champion and 2025 DC Open semifinalist Emma Raducanu of Great Britain.

• 2022 DC Open champion and five-time WTA Tour title winner Liudmila Samsonova of Russia.

Also, three of the sport’s fastest-rising stars will compete in this year’s event: World No. 19 Learner Tien of the United States, World N0. 9 Victoria Mboko of Canada and World No. 19 Iva Jovic of the United States.

Tiafoe, for one, looking forward to returning to Washington, D.C. this summer. “The Mubadala DC Open is one of my favorite events on tour,” he said. “The DMV is home, and there’s nothing like competing in front of family, friends and fans who have been watching me play since I was a kid. Washington always shows up for this tournament, and I’m excited to be back this summer.”

The Mubadala DC Open’s ATP and WTA competition each will include a 32-player singles draw and 16 doubles teams.

Earlier this month, MDE Tennis and Mubadala Investment Company announced a new five-year agreement naming Mubadala the exclusive title sponsor of the tournament, further strengthening the event’s position as one of the premier events on the global tennis calendar.
