GENOVA, September 9, 2017
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Guillermo Garcia-López will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €127,000 AON Open – Memorial Giorgio Messina in Genova.
Tsitsipas benefited from the retirement of eighth seed Marton Fucsovics of Hungary due to a foot injury, leading 6-0, 1-0 to reach his third title match at ATP Challenger level. The #NextGenATP player from Greece finished runner-up to Maxime Janvier in Casablanca last year and one week earlier to Gerald Melzer in Mohammedia.
Garcia-López fought past Stefano Napolitano of Italy 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. The 34-year-old Spaniard sent down six aces and broke serve six times to prevail after just under three hours of play. Garcia-López could clinch his second trophy of the season, following his triumph in Scheveningen.
The pair will meet for the first time.
In the doubles final, Guido Andreozzi of Argentina and Ariel Behar from Uruguay will take on German tandem of Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff.
