LONDON, December 7, 2018
Juan Carlos Ferrero has returned to the Royal Albert Hall in London to open his title defence at the season finale of the ATP Champions Tour. The former World No. 1 from Spain beat Mark Philippoussis of Australia on Friday afternoon 7-6, 7-6 to earn his first victory of the week.
In last year’s final Ferrero defeated Marat Safin in straight sets. The 38-year-old also edged past the Russian at the Marbella Senior Masters Cup earlier this year and seems to be still in good shape. Ferrero prepared for the Champions Tennis event in London, having a couple of indoor practice sessions with Spanish young gun Carlos Alcaraz at his Equelite Academy in Villena.
