Tommy Paul is the champion of the First Republic Tiburon Challenger held on hard courts at the Tiburon Peninsula Club. The top seed from the United States battled past No. 8 seeded Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in Sunday’s singles final, winning 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-4.
Paul won 76 per cent of his first-service points and broke his opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 45 minutes.

A day earlier, after completing the semi-finals, Paul said he hadn’t been playing his best during the week, but it didn’t show. He and Kokkinakis displayed top form in a competition that had them trading places in the lead throughout the match. “This was a great week for me. I felt like I was kind of building momentum,” said Paul, who was at his third Tiburon Challenger.
The 22-year-old New Jersey native clinched his third ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumphs on home soil in Sarasota and New Haven. Paul pocketed $14,400 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.
Galloway/Maytin win doubles title
Earlier in the day, Rob Galloway from the United States and Robert Maytin of Venezuela prevailed to win the doubles competition, defeating US-American JC Aragone and Darian King of Barbados 6-2, 7-5 in 58 minutes.
“It was a great second set. They really fought back,” said Galloway, as he congratulated Aragone and King on their performance.
