Frenchman Quentin Halys and Vasek Pospisil of Canada will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Teréga Open Pau-Pyrénées. Halys, the No. 7 seed of the €90,280 ATP Challenger 100 hard-court tournament battled past Roman Safiullin from Russia 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 6-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The 25-year-old Bondy native fired 21 aces and won 71 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in two hours and 18 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Pospisil defeated Manuel Guinard of France 7-6(2), 7-6(4). The No. 8 seed outpointed his rival 85-70 after one hour and 43 minutes.
Halys is bidding for his fourth Challenger crown, his first since Nanchang, China in April 2018. Pospisil could lift his 11th Challenger trophy, his second of the season following his triumph on French soil in Quimper last month. The 31-year-old Canadian won the only previous meeting between the two in Rennes four years ago.
