Swiss teenager Kilian Feldbausch has recorded his first match win on the ATP Challenger Tour to reach the second round of the Flowbank Challenger Biel/Bienne. The 16-year-old wild card entry from Geneva defeated his compatriot and last year’s runner-up Marc-Andrea Huesler 7-5, 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Feldbausch, who competed in his first Junior Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open in January and became the first Swiss player since Roger Federer in 1998 to reach the semi-finals in Melbourne, withstood five aces from Huesler and broke his opponent’s serve five times to seal victory in one hour and four minutes.

“I am very happy and satisfied with my performance. I stayed aggressive and it paid off,” Feldbausch said after the match. “He played well in the first set. After winning the opening set, I gained confidence and he didn’t play his best anymore.”

The World No. 1,961 will next challenge Filip Horansky of Slovakia.

Herbert falls in opening round

Later in the evening, Borna Gojo knocked out the top seed of the €45,730 indoor hard-court tournament. The 24-year-old Croatian fought past World No. 134 Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France 6-7(0), 6-3, 6-3. Gojo withstood 10 aces from the five-time Grand-Slam champion in doubles and broke his serve four times to secure victory in two hours and 15 minutes.

Gojo will next face Czech qualifier Marek Gengel, who edged out Belgian veteran Ruben Bemelmans 7-6(4), 7-6(3). The encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes.
