BERLIN/STARNBERG, May 27, 2022

Former World No. 12 and 2013 Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki received a wild card into the qualifying of the bett1Open in Berlin. This was announced by the organizers of the WTA 500 grass-court tournament on Friday.

In late 2020, the four-time WTA Tour champion got seriously injured when she tore her anterior cruciate ligament in a doubles match in Linz and announced later that she had to undergo surgery.

Lisicki made her comeback earlier this month at two ITF World Tennis Tour events in the United States. Now, the 32-year-old Troisdorf native will return to compete in Germany.

“I am very happy that Berlin will be part of my comeback on the WTA Tour. It’s great that I can play in front of a home crowd in my home club,” says Lisicki.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek will lead a fantastic line-up at the bett1open, which offers a total prize money of $757,000. The 2020 Roland-Garros champion will be joined by eight more Top 10 players.

The tournament will be held from June 12 to 19 at the LTTC Rot-Weiß in Berlin. For tickets and more information, please click here.
