VICENZA/STARNBERG, May 29, 2022
Andrea Pellegrino has claimed his second title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The World No. 222 from Italy lifted the trophy on home soil, winning the 7th edition of the €45,730 Internazionali di Tennis Città di Vicenza hosted by the Circolo Tennis Palladio 98 in Vicenza.
On a cloudy Sunday and in front of packed stands on Center Court, Pellegrino was in control of the singles final against unseeded Argentine lefty Andrea Collarini. The 25-year-old Bisceglie native, who entered the main draw as an alternate, dictated most of the rallies with a solid baseline game. Pellegrino converted four of his six break-point chances and won 60 per cent of the total points played to secure a 6-1, 6-4 victory in one hour and 23 minutes.

By winning his second Challenger trophy following his maiden triumph at the Roma Garden Open in April last season, Pellegrino earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Organizers of the clay-court event were happy to return to the circuit after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus crisis.
“It was very special for us. It has been an electrifying week and the response from the public since last weekend motivates us and will push us to do even better next year,” said tournament director Enrico Bettini.
“The city of Vicenza deserves to see high-level tennis, and great credit goes to Enrico and the sponsors who supported him. The Tennis Palladio 98 is the club with the highest number of members in Veneto,” added Gianfranco Piombo Vice-President of the Federtennis Comitanto Regionale.
