Lithuanian teenager Vilius Gaubas has reached the quarterfinals of the Serena Wines 1881 – Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup in Cordenons, Italy. The 19-year-old No. 4 seed of the ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event defeated Argentine qualifier Luciano Emanuel Ambrogi 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday.
Gaubas, a winner of four titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour, converted five of his nine break-point chances and won 59 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 26 minutes. The World No. 221 will next take on Italian veteran Lorenzo Giustino, who eased past his compatriot Samuel Vincent Ruggeri 6-1, 6-1 in 67 minutes.

In other second-round action, Carlos Taberner of Spain beat Austrian alternate Sandro Kopp 6-4, 6-3. The 26-year-old Valencia native won 73 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival four times to succeed in one hour and 34 minutes.
Up next for Taberner will be local wild card entry Riccardo Bonadio, who defeated former Junior World No. 1 Joel Schwaerzler of Austria 7-5, 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and 42 minutes.
