HAMBURG, February 20, 2025
The German Tennis Federation (DTB) has introduced a new points race for its tournament series, DTB Internationals presented by Wilson and DTB Premium Tour presented by Wilson, replacing the previous format of the German Championships for men and women at the end of the year. The new ranking system will determine the best-performing players of the year.
The ranking will include results from all German players competing in the 100 annual tournaments of the DTB Internationals and DTB Premium Tour. A maximum of 12 best results with the highest point values will be counted, while a minimum of three valid results is required to be considered in the standings. Currently, Anna-Lena Friedsam leads the race for the women, while Justin Engel tops the men’s ranking for 2025.
The points system follows a set structure, awarding the highest points for winning an ATP Challenger 125 or a WTA 125 event. Only results from German players are considered, and the rankings will be updated weekly on tennis.de.
The ranking is divided into men’s and women’s categories, as well as youth divisions: U19 for women and U21 for men. At the end of the calendar year, the top three players in each category will receive prizes and financial support, along with wildcards for German tournaments in the following year.
DTB Board Member Veronika Rücker explained the motivation behind this reform: “Our goal with this new system is to recognize players who perform consistently well throughout the entire calendar year, rather than just at a single event. This change will enhance the appeal of participating in our national tournaments. Additionally, the introduction of a youth category aims to motivate young talents and provide further development opportunities.”
