Australian tennis legend and former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt has joined forces with the Australian Tennis Foundation to help raise more than $160,000 to create greater opportunities for young people experiencing disadvantage.

During a candid and inspiring Q&A with Todd Woodbridge in front of 300 captivated guests at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre on Saturday 9 MayHewitt pulled back the curtain and shared rare insights into the moments of glory and adversity that shaped his remarkable tennis career.

The funds raised at the second official annual Night of Champions charity event will help create positive social impact across Australia by improving access to tennis and its benefits for young people who need it most.

“To try and give back to people that are a little bit disadvantaged to get involved in our great sport, I think it’s fantastic,” Hewitt said.

“I’m thrilled to be here and reminisce and chat about some of the great days that I was able to have.”

Hosted by Todd Woodbridge and Samantha Riches, the event welcomed notable guests including Australian Tennis Foundation ambassador John Fitzgerald, Paul Dainty, Donna Bass, Louise Field, John McCurdy, Karen Inge and more.

The night also featured a live performance from acclaimed musical theatre performer Josh Piterman, alongside a decadent menu of food, wine and entertainment.

Australian Tennis Foundation Executive Director, Vicki Reid, said the night was a celebration of a man who gave the nation so much to cheer about.

“Lleyton’s fighting spirit lit up stadiums from Melbourne to Wimbledon and his story should be possible for every kid, regardless of their circumstances or background,” Ms Reid said.

“We want to make sure all kids have the opportunity to connect and play through tennis.”

The second iteration of the Night of Champions follows the inaugural event held last year, which celebrated tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley AC MBE and raised more than $100,000.
