AIX-EN-PROVENCE, May 9, 2015
Robin Haase and Paul-Henri Mathieu will go head to head on Sunday’s final at the Open du Pays d’Aix.
Mathieu overcame German teenager Alexander Zverev in his semi-finals match on Saturday. The 33-year-old French converted five of his eight break point opportunities winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in two hours and 39 minutes.
Haase had led 6-3, 2-0 against Malek Jaziri before the number two seeded Tunisian was forced to retire due to injury.
Both players have reached their first final of the season and will meet for the second time on the tour. Haase won the only previous encounter in the qualifying of the Swiss Indoors in Basel in 2010 in three sets.
The 28-year-old Dutch also captured the doubles title in Aix-en-Provence. Teaming up with Aisam-Ul-Haq-Qureshi, Haase won the final against Nicholas Monroe and Artem Sitak 6-1, 6-2 in 53 minutes.
