Pospisil Takes Open De Rennes Title

Vasek Pospisil captured his sixth ATP Challenger crown, winning the €64,000 Open de Rennes held at the Salle Colette-Besson. The No. 2 seed from Canada defeated Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final. Pospisil saved all five break points he faced, converting four of his own to prevail after one hour and 12 minutes.

The 27-year-old Vernon native, who didn’t lose a set all week, earns €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points and will return to the top 100 on Monday. He will move up 20 spots to World No 85.

Earlier in the day, Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen of Belgium edged past Sander Arends from the Netherlands and Antonio Sancic of Croatia 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 to claim the doubles title. The encounter lasted one hour and 22 minutes.
