Zapata Miralles To Face Van De Zandschulp For Maiden Challenger Title In Hamburg

Bernabe Zapata Miralles

HAMBURG, October 26, 2019

As the top two seeds of the Tennis Challenger Hamburg presented by Tannenhof fell in the semi-finals, two unseeded players will compete for the singles title of the €46,600 hard-court event.

Botic van de Zandschulp knocked out Italian Salvatore Caruso, the tournament’s No. 1, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon. The 24-year-old from the Netherlands converted five of his seven break point opportunities to secure victory in two hours and eight minutes.

Earlier in the day, Bernabe Zapata Miralles fought past No. 2 seed Elias Ymer from Sweden 7-6(5), 7-6(7). The 22-year-old from Spain outpointed his rival 89-85 to prevail after one hour and 52 minutes.

Zapata Miralles won the only previous meeting with van de Zanschulp at the ATP Challenger in Blois, France, earlier this season. Both players are seeking their maiden trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Sunday’s action at the venue of the Hamburger Tennis-Verband will be opened by the doubles final when top seeds Ken Skupski from Great Britain and Australian John-Patrick Smith will take on the all-US-American combination of Jamie Cerretani and Maxime Cressy. Cerretani and Cressy finished runner-up at last week’s Wolffkran Open in Ismaning. Both tandems are bidding for their maiden team title.
