Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina has claimed the title of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag. The No. 4 seed of the ATP Tour 250 clay-court event outlasted second-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) in Saturday’s singles final.

After a first-round bye, Cerundolo booked his spot in the championship match following victories over local wild card entry Matej Dodig, Lorenzo Sonego of Italy and top seed Andrey Rublev from Russia.

Cerundolo converted three of his five break-point opportunities and won 50 per cent of the total points played to prevail after exactly three hours of play.

It was an unreal battle,” said Cerundolo. “Lorenzo has played super great tennis the last month. He probably is one of the players who won the most matches on Tour so I knew it was going to be really tough tonight.

“I don’t know how I came back. I fought until the last point and luckily I won the match. I’m super proud because it was a really tough battle.”

By lifting his third ATP Tour career trophy, his first of the season, the 25-year-old Gaucho earned €88,125 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points. Cerundolo will move up 11 places to No. 25 in the ATP Rankings.
