Mubadala Investment Company has become the exclusive Title Sponsor of Washington, D.C.’s premier professional tennis tournament, which will be rebranded as the Mubadala DC Open under a new five-year agreement through 2030.

The announcement, which was made by MDE Tennis on Thursday and takes effect immediately, marks a new era for the tournament. It reinforces its position as the world’s only combined ATP/WTA 500-series event, while supporting its continued growth as one of the premier tournaments on the global tennis calendar. The Washington, D.C. tournament annually kicks off the North American summer pro tennis swing, which starts in the U.S. nation’s capital city and culminates at the US Open in New York City.

The new agreement builds upon Mubadala’s successful tenure as Co-Title sponsor from 2023 to 2025 and further solidifies a long-term partnership between one of the world’s most important tennis events and one of the world’s preeminent investment firms. It further secures its place as one of Washington, D.C.’s signature annual sporting events.

The Mubadala DC Open has enjoyed unprecedented momentum in recent years. It has recorded 59 consecutive session sellouts since 2019 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park (northwest Washington, D.C.), the event’s longtime home. The 57th edition of the tournament is scheduled from July 25 to August 2.

“Mubadala has been a truly exceptional partner for the tournament and has helped catalyze the breakthrough growth and impact we have collectively achieved over the last three years. With their support, we created the only combined ATP/WTA 500 event on tour and have been able to elevate every aspect of the tournament, most notably the fan experience, player field, partner portfolio and community impact,” said Mark Ein, Chairman of the Mubadala DC Open. “Mubadala’s new long-term commitment marks a new era for our historic tournament and positions us to continue investing in one of Washington’s most beloved sporting events while building one of the premier events on the global tennis calendar.”

The newly-expanded partnership with Mubadala will also benefit the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), which has received approximately $50 million as the tournament’s primary beneficiary since the event was founded in 1969 by Donald Dell, John Harris and Arthur Ashe. The longstanding relationship with the tournament and WTEF provides community programming and expanded access to academic enrichment, mentorship, tennis and youth development opportunities across the Washington region, which has significantly increased with Mubadala’s engagement in recent years. It remains a cornerstone of the tournament’s legacy and community impact.

As the fifth-largest professional tennis tournament in the U.S, the Mubadala DC Open annually attracts one of the strongest player fields of the summer calendar. During its storied history, the event has featured many champions and icons of tennis, including: Ashe, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Sloane Stephens, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff and Jannik Sinner. Last year’s singles champions were Alex de Minaur and Leylah Fernandez. The tournament has also become a hometown stage for local stars like Frances Tiafoe (Hyattsville, Md.) and Hailey Baptiste (Washington, D.C.), giving sellout Washington crowds the chance to watch two of the world’s top players compete alongside the sport’s biggest names in their home city.

What they’re saying about the Mubadala DC Open

“Mubadala’s partnership with the DC Open reflects our long-standing commitment to tennis as well as the communities where we do business. Over the past three years, we have seen this tournament grow in reach, stature and impact, with player quality and fan growth in both Abu Dhabi and D.C. As exclusive title sponsor through 2030, we are proud to support the continued evolution of the Mubadala DC Open as a world-class sporting event and a catalyst for youth development and community engagement.”

Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO, Mubadala

“Since the tournament’s inception, WTEF’s role as the official beneficiary of the Mubadala DC Open has helped us raise close to $50 million to support students from historically underserved communities in Washington, DC. That legacy of investment has allowed us to expand access to tuition-free, year-round tennis and education programs that help young people develop the skills, confidence, and character to succeed in school, career, and life. In addition to supporting the tournament, Mubadala has also become a wonderful direct supporter of WTEF and our programs.”
