CORDENONS/STARNBERG, July 16, 2026
Second-round action was completed at the 23rd edition of the Serena Wines 1881–Acqua Maniva Tennis Cup in Cordenons, Italy, where clear skies finally allowed play to proceed uninterrupted after several rain-affected days. The ATP Challenger 75 clay-court event, played at the Eurosporting Club, offers a total prize fund of $107,000.
The day’s marquee match saw top seed Hugo Dellien of Bolivia recover from a set down to defeat Italy’s Enrico Dalla Valle 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. Dalla Valle appeared to have seized the momentum after breaking serve in the final game of the opening set shortly after Dellien had taken a medical timeout. However, the Bolivian responded emphatically, winning 12 of the next 13 games to secure another ATP Challenger 75 quarter-final, just one week after reaching the last eight in Trieste.
Fifth seed Max Alcala Gurri continued his excellent run of form with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Italian wildcard Lorenzo Angelini. The Spaniard, who recently claimed Challenger 50 titles in Cervia and Royan and reached the quarterfinals in Targu Mureș, proved too solid in the key moments against the 20-year-old home player.
Seventh seed Stefano Napolitano booked his place in the quarterfinals after completing a rain-delayed encounter against Argentina’s Alex Barrena. The Italian prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) in a gripping contest lasting nearly two hours and 45 minutes. Napolitano squandered a 5-2 lead in the deciding set and missed a match point with a routine volley, but recovered to dominate the final-set tie-break and reach his fifth Challenger quarter-final of the 2026 season.
On Court 12, Uruguay’s Franco Roncadelli came through another dramatic three-set battle, defeating Czech youngster Maxim Mrva 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7). Roncadelli let a 5-2 advantage slip in the deciding set and even had to save a match point at 5-6 in the tie-break before sealing victory in a marathon encounter.
Third seed Sumit Nagal also progressed after overcoming Argentina’s Juan Bautista Torres 7-6, 6-2. The Indian saved two set points in a tight opening set before taking control of the match. Nagal also has a special connection to Cordenons, having trained at the international tennis academy founded by the late Edi Aldo Raffin when he was just 12 years old.
