PARIS, May 25, 2017

The successful run of the young guns at Roland Garros men’s qualifying has come to an end in the final round on Thursday. Big-serving US-American Reilly Opelka was stopped by Nicolas Jarry. The 21-year-old from Chile withstood 14 aces, hitting 13 of his own to secure victory in one hour and 49 minutes. Jarry, who captured six ITF Pro Circuit title will appear in his first Grand Slam main draw match.

Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan lost to Stefano Napolitano 6-4, 6-7 , 6-2. Bublik fired 12 aces but also produced 11 double faults. The World No. 185 from Italy capitalized on seven of his 11 break point chances to prevail in two hours and 14 minutes, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Napolitano also qualified for his maiden main draw at a major event.

Guido Pella fought past 20-year-old Frenchman Maxime Janvier, rallying 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. The in-form-Argentine, who finished runner-up at the ATP 250 event in Munich three weeks ago, hit 33 winners to finish the encounter after two hours and 26 minutes. Pella will play his third main draw at Roland Garros, following reaching the round of the last 64 in 2013 and 2016.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the lone #NextGenATP star, who managed to qualify for the main draw. The 18-year-old from Greece, eased past German Oscar Otte, winning 6-3, 6-2. Tsitsipas broke serve five times to advance in one hour and 11 minutes. The World No. 202 clinched the Wimbledon junior’s doubles title alongside Kenneth Raisma last year and will now return to the main draw of a Grand Slam, his first at senior level.

Teymuraz Gabashvili from Russia, Italian Simone Bolelli, Santiago Giraldo from Colombia and Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky also qualified for next week’s matches in Paris. Main draw ceremony for men’s and women’s singles tournament is going to take place at 12pm on Friday at the Club des Loges. The draw will be carried out by the French Olympic boxing champions Estelle Mossely and Tony Yoka.
