STARNBERG, November 29, 2017
Donna Vekic announced on Wednesday that she has hired Torben Beltz as her new coach. The 21-year-old from Croatia decided to work with the experienced German tennis coach.
Beltz is best known for his work with 2016 Australian Open and 2016 US Open champion Angelique Kerber. He has been credited with helping Kerber to win her first Grand Slam title and reaching the top of the WTA rankings. Last month, Kerber announced that she has parted ways with Beltz, and has hired Wim Fissette as her coach.
“I am very excited to work with Donna, she has a lot of potential and I am sure we can achieve good results together,” 41-year-old Beltz stated.
Vekic, who clinched the title at the Aegon Open in Nottingham this year and is currently ranked World No. 54, told via facebook:
“The next season is nearly upon us and I can’t wait to start working with Torben Beltz as my new coach. 2017 was one my best years so far on the tour as I broke the Top 50 and I won my second WTA title, I am eager to do even better with Torben. It’s a great opportunity to learn from one of the best coaches and I look forward to this new collaboration.”
